Both EMS service providers and industrial companies with their own electronics manufacturing (OEMs) face the same challenge in their day-to-day procurement: The production of modern assemblies requires a vast variety of active, passive, and electromechanical components. This often results in a supplier base of several hundred vendors. What may appear at first glance to be risk diversification often turns out in practice to be a major cost driver.
